Child suffers possible leg fractures after being hit by car

Posted: Updated:

A child was injured after being hit by a car while crossing a sidewalk to get to school this morning, according to officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department.

The accident happened on the 7600 block of Cimarron Boulevard near Mireles Elementary right around 8 a.m..

The child was crossing a sidewalk when a parent that was leaving the school hit the child. The parent told officers she did not see the child crossing.

The child suffered possible fractures in their legs but officers say there are no life-threatening injuries. The child was transported to Driscoll Children's Hospital.

The driver was cited for failure to yield to the right-of-way.

"Please be cautious. There are children walking in on bikes and so forth so we ask that you look both ways, especially in a school zone," Lt. Emily Perez with the CCPD said at the scene.
