CORPUS CHRISTI -
A new scholarship is available to students in the Del Mar Culinary Arts and Hospitality program. Del Mar College officials were joined by students and other invited guests to take part in the check presentation celebration earlier today. The college was presented with a specially-shaped, over-sized check designed to reflect the love and passion that Homan put into her creations.
The $100,000 donation was made by an anonymous foundation in honor of the late Gary Cargile Homan, who was a well-know cake and confectionery artist. Homan was born in Wharton, Texas before moving to Corpus Christi and attending Del Mar College where she became an instructor later in life. She died in November of 2016 at the age of 71.
The Gary Cargile Homan Scholarship is available to Del Mar students in the Baking/Pastry Specialization and Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management majors. To apply you must go through the DMC Foundation's regular application process. The Foundation takes applications from February through April each year for the following academic year and can be accessed from the University's online resources for enrolled students.
