CCPD: Man shot by police officer during traffic stop has died

Corpus Christi Police Chief Mike Markle confirmed in a press conference this morning that one man is dead following an officer-related shooting last night.

According to the medical examiner's office the deceased is identified as Dewboy Lister, 55, of Corpus Christi.

The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, when an officer made a traffic stop at Port and Winnebago.

A short foot chase lead them to the 2800 block of Minton. 

It was there that the suspect started fighting with the officer.

That's when the officer fired on the male suspect.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and went to surgery.

Police Chief Mike Markle said the officer was also injured and taken to the hospital.

 The officer will be placed on routine administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
