Spurs team chaplain visits Islander men's basketball team

Posted: Updated:

San Antonio Spurs team chaplain Rich Garza visited with the Islander men's basketball team Tuesday afternoon. Garza is entering his 21st year with the Spurs. He played in the NFL for the Eagles and Broncos. Garza also spent three years in the United States Football League. And here's some trivia for you, he is the only player to start in all 58 games during the USFL's existence.

Now, he leads chapel services one hour before every Spurs home game. He gets to hang out with the best of the best.

"I'm thankful that we still live in a land where in the NBA and NFL, all pro sports, NASCAR, tennis and golf there is an opportunity for someone to come an hour before the game and have some time to visit." said Garza. "We can work on the third part of a person. Mind, body but that soul you know is where we can make all those character and moral decisions."

He is in town to speak at Wednesday's Fellowship of Christian Athletes Fields of Faith event at Texas A&M Kingsville.
