Woman arrested for allegedly driving drunk with children in car
Belinda Johnson was arrested after allegedly driving drunk with children in the car.
CORPUS CHRISTI - A woman who was arrested for allegedly driving drunk with two children in the car took off with those children without their mother's permission, according to a statement the mother gave officers.
Corpus Christi Police Department officers got a call about a woman who had stopped her car in the middle of the road on Everhart Road near Williams Drive just after 10 Wednesday night.
When officers arrived, they say they found the woman standing in the roadway.
"The female was excited, speaking with slurred speech, was unsteady on her feet and had an odor of alcohol coming from her breath," a statement from CCPD said.
The woman, 49-year-old Belinda Johnson, told officers that she ran out of gas and was trying to get help.
Officers then noticed two small children in the back seat of the car. The children were not in car seats and did not have seat belts on, according to investigators.
When officers located the children's mother, the mother said she was a passenger in the car and had gone into a store to get juice when Johnson drove away with her children.
Officers found pills and synthetic cannabinoids in Johnson's possession.
Johnson was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a child and possession of dangerous drugs. The children were released to the mother.
