ALICE, TEXAS - Alice city councilwoman Elida Garza resigned during yesterday's city council meeting.
Elida Garza was elected back in May of 2017. She has only been on the council for a few months but has been under heat for firing the former city manager and the city attorney.
The council was caught off guard with Garza's resignation at the end of the city council meeting.
The city council will now have to appoint someone else to this vacant spot at the next meeting.
Garza is one of two council members that are on the ballot for a recall election in November. A petition was submitted and validated to recall Garza earlier this summer. The recall election was scheduled for November 7th.
On July 13, Garza sponsored the item to fire the city attorney. He was subsequently terminated during that meeting. Garza is also the mayor pro-tem for the city of Alice.
