Aransas Pass Care Regional Medical Center closed

ARANSAS PASS - The community of Aransas Pass has had the opportunity to see first-hand the destructive force of Hurricane Harvey.  It's impact on the Aransas Pass Care Regional Medical Center hospital was catastrophic.  The roof could not withstand the Category 4 strength winds, and, as a result, there is extensive damage to the interior as well as to roof of the building.  In addition to the devastation from the storm, the hospital was burglarized last night, and the circumstances are currently being investigated by local authorities.

"The Care Regional Medical Center is a critical access hospital that has served the community of Aransas Pass and surrounding areas.  The hospital is an important part of the community and has multiple clinics including specialty clinics and clinics in Rockport. The owners are local and dedicated to serving the community of Aransas and San Patricio counties," said Aransas Pass Care Regional Medical Center Director Dr. Alicia Hart.

Over the next several days, they will evaluate this crisis and discuss a plan for dealing with the ramifications. They have no choice but to close the hospital until further notice as they fully assess the damage and consider the potential for rebuilding in light of feedback from professional advisers.

“They are working on it.  They just toured the damage today.  I’m sure we will be meeting extensively and working on rebuilding.  Rebuilding will be at the mercy of the community services (water, electricity, plus debris removal). Hopefully the community with prioritize rebuilding the hospital too,” said Dr. Hart.
