Dan McQueen, the former mayor of Corpus Christi who on Wednesday announced a bid for United States Senate, shared via his Facebook account that in his "opinion" it should be a requirement for anyone serving in political office to have served in the military, or at least have a family member who served in the military.

"Those that contribute get nothing while we give away America to those that have not built this Great Nation. I believe that anyone in our government should have served in the military or at a minimum, their parents should have served, ok I'll even go one better, a grandparent could have served.", the post read.

Similarly to President Donald Trump, McQueen, who served as mayor of Corpus Christi for only 37 days, used social media heavily to communicate with his constituents and regularly bashed local media outlets, particularly KRIS 6 News, who broke the story that he falsified his credentials.
