Keeping up with basic car maintenance with deter issues with oil changes and anything else with car fluids. This also has to do with tire tread and tire pressure.

Marcus Krohn, from Firestone, told KRIS 6 Reporter Chelsea Torres, that the best and easiest way to check your tire tread is with the penny test.

Hold a penny on the tread of a tire, if you see the Lincoln's head, then get your tires checked. If you cannot see Lincoln's head then your tire is good to go.

For checking tire pressure it is good to know what pressure your tire has to be at, this can be found in the owner's manual or on the vehicle placard which will be on the inside of the vehicle, either on the door or near the driver's seat.

Always be prepared for a dead car battery or a breakdown at any given time. Have an auto safety kit in case you were to break down in an area that will cause for a long-awaited time for help.

Pay attention to your dashboard, anytime a random light comes on that you are unsure of, the best thing to do is get it checked.

These will all serve for a better drive to school.
