A man suspected of causing an accident that left one woman dead and a 2-year-old child in critical condition on Thursday has been arrested.
Robert Binderim, 25, was arrested on charges of manslaughter, assault, injury to an elderly and injury to a child.
The accident happened Thursday night, just after 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Yorktown Blvd. and Staples St.
Investigators believe that 25-year-old Amanda Saldana was heading north on Staples when she tried to turn onto Yorktown. Police say Binderim ran the red light at Yorktown and slammed into Saldana’s vehicle, causing it to hit another car.
Saldana was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 2-year-old child in Saldana’s vehicle was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The child is still in the hospital and is recovering.
A 65-year-old man was also injured in the accident.
Binderim is being held in a city detention center.
