Javs Brandon Jones named to College Football America first team
KINGSVILLE - Texas A&M University-Kingsville defensive lineman Brandon Jones has been named to the College Football America 2017 Yearbook Division II Starting Lineup - CFA's version of an All-America team - as announced Wednesday.
The reigning Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Defensive Lineman of the Year and All-LSC first team selection is one of just two LSC players to appear on the preseason list. Jones, a junior from Houston, returns after setting the pace defensively with 9.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. The Javelinas had one of the biggest turnarounds in all of NCAA, going from 2-9 to 9-3 en route to an Agent Barry Live United Bowl victory over #RV Southern Arkansas University.
Jones was the lone LSC representative on the 2016 D2Football.com All-America first or second team with a second team selection. He also received Don Hansen All-Super Region Four second team, D2CCA All-South Central Region second team and was a regional Harlon Hill finalist.
All in all, Jones collected 49 tackles and his 9.5 sacks are fifth most in program single season history. After six tackles, 3.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks in a win at West Texas A&M University, Jones was awarded LSC Defensive Player of the Week.
The season begins at home under the historic lights of Javelina Stadium Sept. 2 when the Hogs look for their eighth consecutive win, hosting Central Washington University at 7 p.m.
