Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi intercepted another Mexican lancha off the coast of southern Texas.

Crews stopped the boat with four fishermen engaged in illegal fishing on Thursday. The lancha and fishing gear on it were confiscated. The fishermen were detained and transferred to federal authorities.

A lancha is a slender fishing boat that is approximately 20-30 feet long. These boats typically have one outboard motor, and are capable of traveling at high speeds.

So far, Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi has interdicted 27 lanchas north of the U.S./Mexican Maritime Border in 2017.

If you witness suspicious fishing out to 9 miles offshore, contact the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's "Operation Game Thief" at 1-800-792-GAME. For all suspicious fishing occurring out to 200 miles offshore, contact Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi at 361-939-6393.
