CORPUS CHRISTI -
This year's Beach to Bay marathon honors a local runner whose murder earlier this year remains unsolved.
Back on January 22nd, 25-year-old Andre Fuqua was shot while driving along Interstate 37 in Annaville. He died a few days later.
He was well-known in the running community and a member of the "Corpus Christi Roadrunners." Beach to Bay organizers decided to place Fuqua's pictures on their cover of this year's program. The magazine's centerfold is also dedicated to the avid runner. The t-shirts given to runners have the words "In memory of Andre Fuqua" at the bottom.
Beach to Bay spokesperson Adrian Marquez said, "We wanted to do something to appreciate him. He was like a big part of our program with the Corpus Christi Road Runners. He was at every event this time of the year. He was on multiple teams. He was out there running, cheering people on. So, we're going to have that same mentality for him this year."
Fuqua was returning from a race in Houston when he was shot. No arrests have been made in his murder.
