CORPUS CHRISTI -
Grow Local South Texas has 100,000 reasons to celebrate. Recently, Port Industries of Corpus Christi presented a $100,000 donation to the non-profit organization.
If you're not familiar with Grow Local South Texas, you probably know one of the group's signature events. It operates the weekly Corpus Christi Downtown Farmers Market.
Bob Paulison, executive director of Port Industries, says they've been working with Grow Local since 2015 and wanted to show support for the organization's mission, which is"to cultivate a healthy community by growing the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable foods."
"We want to do our part to improve the quality of life here in Corpus Christi and we think that this is an important way to do that," Paulison told KRIS 6 News.
Aislynn Campbell, executive director of Grow Local South Texas, calls the donation "a huge win for our entire community." She adds that the donation will give the non-profit some breathing room, and also proves that industry in Corpus Christi supports the local food movement.
