Teacher accused of kidnapping student due in court
Tad Cummins faces several state and federal charges
The Tennessee teacher charged with kidnapping one of his students, will be in a California court Friday.
Tad Cummins, 50, and his 15-year-old student were found in California Thursday. Cummins was arrested after the caretaker of a rental cabin compound recognized him and called authorities.
The girl was apparently healthy and unharmed, and will be taken back to Tennessee.
Cummins faces state charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor, as well as a federal charge of taking a minor across state lines to have sex. If convicted of the federal charges, Cummins faces at least 10 years in prison.
The pair disappeared March 13. Cummins was being investigated by the school system when another student reported the teacher kissing the 15-year-old student.
