Danaher reacts to winning Tom Landry Award

Posted: Updated:
CALALLEN -

As we first reported last night, Calallen's Phil Danhaer has won the prestigious Tom Landry Award which honors the Texas high school  football coach of the year regardless of classification. Landry of course was the former Dallas Cowboys head coach and NFL Hall of Famer who led the Cowboys to two Super Bowl titles.

Daneher became the winningest coach in Texas high school football and history and led the Wildcats to the class 5A Division II state title game this past fall. Here is his reaction from earlier today.

"Well Alan, to be honest this is probably the one award that means the most," said Danaher. "It's voted on by your peers, coaches and the directors of the Texas High School Coaches Association. It's very prestigious because it's Tom Landry, one of the greatest coaches ever and to receive a trophy named after him is as big as it gets."

A very big deal indeed, he will receive the award at The Texas High School Hall of Fame Dinner May 6th in Waco.

The West Oso ISD made history this week when they promoted girl's head basketball coach Cheryl Fillmore to athletic director. She is the first female to hold that position at West Oso.  She is certainly qualified. Fillmore attended school there. Taught and coached there during her entire 25 career and has lived in the district for over 40 years. So she knows the needs of the district. We asked her what is the biggest need right now? "We need stability," said Fillmore....
