PORTLAND -

Investigators are still trying to piece together why a Portland man allegedly killed his father early Tuesday morning.

Andres Mushel, 23, was arrested early Tuesday after officials say he assaulted his mother, killed his father and then set the house on fire on the 2200 block of Aspen Drive.

Officers say the incident started as a fight outside of the home between Mushel and his father, 63-year-old Christopher Mushel. The two went inside, and that's when the fight escalated and police say Andres Mushel killed his father.

Andres Mushel is being charged with the murder of his father, aggravated assault on his mother and arson.

Andres' mother is now out of the hospital and is said to be doing okay.

Andres Mushel is being held at the San Patricio County Jail. His bond has been set at $3.5 million. This includes $2 million for the murder of his father, $500,000 for the aggravated assault on his mother and $1 million for arson.

As for the exact cause of Christopher Mushel's death, police say they're waiting on the autopsy.
