Police say this all began in the front yard of the home as a fight between 63-year-old Christopher Mushel and his son, 23-year-old Andrew Mushel. The two went inside, and that's when the fight escalated, and police say Andrew Mushel killed his father.
As for what neighbors say, they had been noticing something wasn't right with the suspect over the last few weeks.
Just after 3:00 am Tuesday morning, police and fire crews arrived to find this home on the 2200 block of Aspen Drive on fire. That's when they also noticed a man on the roof, later identified as Andrew Mushel. Police worked to get Andrew down and into custody. Once inside the home, police discovered his father, Christopher Mushel, dead in a back room with trauma to his head.
Andrew Mushel is being charged with the murder of his father, aggravated assault on his mother and arson. As police continue to piece together what led up to this disturbing scene, neighbors admit they'd began to suspect something wasn't right with Andrew recently.
One neighbor who didn't want to be on camera said, "He went from a normal kid to all of the sudden looking like - just dressing different, being different. We could come home late hours, and he'd be outside dressed in black just sitting on the curb, and we'd say hi, and he wouldn't respond."
Andrew's mother is now out of the hospital and is said to be doing okay. Andrew Mushel will be held in the San Patricio County Jail.
As for the exact cause of Christopher Mushel's death, police say they're waiting on the autopsy.
