School administrators fall victim to possible scam

Posted: Updated:
BEN BOLT -

According to the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department, school administrators with Ben Bolt I.S.D. emailed W-2 forms and employee information to a person posing as the superintendent.

The incident happened back on February 3rd, 2017.

Deputies say a business manager received an email from an unknown party posing to be the school's superintendent, Tim Little.

The manager advised the email was requesting W-2 forms and employee information.

The business manager said because the administrator signed the email and the request did not seem like out of the ordinary, she responded by sending the requested documents of all of the employees at the Ben Bolt High School.

The business manager talked to the Tim Little later, and he advised her that he had not emailed her requesting any such documents.

After examination, he confirmed the email requesting the records was not his.

Deputies advised the business manager to let the employees know of the incident so they could monitor their personal and financial information.

Deputies with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department advised if there was any hint of deception, to call them and report it immediately.
