The man who was shot while driving along Interstate 37 has died.
Andre Fuqua was shot several times Sunday night along the I-37 access road just south of Violet Road. He was a 2010 graduate of Flour Bluff High School. He was also well known in the running community and part of the "Corpus Christi Roadrunners" running club.
Fuqua's friend and Fleet Feet store manager Adrian Marquez said he met Fuqua seven years ago when they were in college. He says Fuqua was a good friend who was very compassionate. Marquez said, "Anybody that ever knew Andre, he always had the biggest smile on his face and a big heart. Anybody that was ever around him for more than five minutes could see that. (he was) free-spirited, always loving and always caring for everybody else."
Marquez said news that Fuqua was shot came as a shock because he said Fuqua was a fun loving guy. Friends called Fuqua "Ghandi". Marquez said "He wouldn't hurt a soul. For that to happen, I think it was just shocking to everybody. Just a random attack."
Meanwhile, police say if you have any information about Sunday night's shooting, call Crimestoppers at (361)888-TIPS.
