Election Day is just two months away and Nueces County officials want to make sure everything goes as smoothly. Just last month, Nueces County announced that all voters will be able to use any county location to cast their ballot but they want to make it even easier.
Nueces County Clerk Kara Sands says after previous years with lower voting numbers, the county - along with several organizations - worked to come up with ways to ensure everyone gets out to vote.
Sands says one reason they think people weren't able to vote, was simply because they couldn't get to their polling location. But with a new partnership between the county and RTA, they hope to fix that.
Nueces County Clerk Kara Sands said, "They're offering free rides during early voting to everyone that has a voter registration card and you're going to one of the early voting locations and on election day it's free for everyone."
The RTA B-Line will also offer free rides to voters with disabilities and a new transportation company is also jumping on the bandwagon.
William Thompson, a driver with TRIDE Rideshare said "TRIDE Rideshare comes in certain cities and works with certain cities that have on-going issues with other ride share companies."
TRIDE Rideshare is one of two ridesharing companies in the Corpus Christi area in compliance with the city's rideshare ordinance, which requires all drivers to undergo fingerprint background checks. Drivers for the company will be taking voters to and from the voting location of their choice on November 8th, for free.
