Community health centers across our country have more than a 45-year history of providing care in underserved communities for everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. By design, these health centers are run by a board of directors comprised mostly of health center patients, ensuring the care delivered is tailored for the needs of the communities they serve.
The Amistad Community Health Center here in Corpus Christi, was founded in 2005 as a non-profit, faith-based organization aimed to address the growing number of community members lacking health insurance, a primary care provider, and a place to receive affordable, quality medical attention. Their center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which is a Federal designation assigned to non-profit or public health care organizations that serve predominantly uninsured or underserved populations and are located in or serving a designated Medically Underserved Area/Population (MUA/P). They are an FTCA deemed facility. As an FQHC, Amistad is expected to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services for the patients they serve. They also provide services to all persons regardless of their ability to pay by charging for services on a sliding fee scale based on a patient’s family size and income. Amistad provides services to people in every stage of the life cycle.
Amistad Community Health Center's mission is to strive and provide the underserved healthcare population in the Corpus Christi community with the highest quality medical care available in the spirit and strength of Jesus Christ. They foresee a future that includes being the place of choice for comprehensive health care, meeting the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of the community, and impacting the lives of those around us through the love and actions of Christ.
Amistad Community Health Center is your community primary health care center – providing affordable, quality health care services. Their center offers affordable primary care and pediatric programs that include medical services, a sliding fee scale based on family size and income, and prescription assistance.
At Amistad, they accept all types of Medicaid, Medicare, and several private insurance plans. For those patients without health insurance coverage, they offer a sliding fee scale based on the federally established guidelines of family size and income to determine the cost of services provided.
For patients without health insurance but who may qualify for Medicaid, they have a Medicaid office and worker on-site to assist with the application process. To apply for Medicaid patients will be asked to provide: proof of income, children’s birth certificates and Social Security cards, and proof of residency.
