Memorial Day was originally designed to honor those we lost in the Civil War.
As the years went by, it became a time for people to remember those lost in all the wars we've fought since then. The day became a federal holiday back in 1971 as the U.S. was still very much involved in the Vietnam War.
Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. We would like to hear from our viewers about the heroes they have lost in combat. Send us a photo with their name, rank, when they served, and any special information you have about them.
Thank you to all the men and women who have fallen serving our country and protecting our freedoms.
