ALICE -

Some Alice residents have filed a petition to initiate a recall election of Councilman Ron Burke.

This comes after the councilman asked for an investigation into funding for the Natatorium. If the required number of signatures are collected and verified by the City Clerk, the petition will be presented to the city council.

At that point, Burke will have two days to resign, or a special election will be called about a month later.

Council member Ron Burke spoke about the petition. "It can have a chilling effect on a councilman, a legislator taking an opposing view or a controversial vote on something, and then being threatened with recall. I don't think that that's what the intent of the recall process is about. That's why we have the ballot box."

Burke tells us he has no intention of resigning and he'll fight the effort to get him ousted from the council.
