NUECES COUNTY -

A loud boom rattled homes just west of Corpus Christi Thursday morning. The sound was strong enough to set off car alarms in the area.

It turns out a group of people at a church were burning a pile of scrap wood on FM 665 near Clarkwood Road. They had poured gasoline on the pile in a burn pit before starting the blaze. Once ignited it caused a large flare up.

Two men were hurt but they were able to drive themselves to the hospital. Doctors are having them transferred to a burn unit in San Antonio.
