David Burton, 71, is retired now and lives in Portland.
But he's fighting the Veterans Affairs over some medical bills the giant government agency, should have paid.
6 Investigates finds Burton's problems are tied two a couple of things: the VA's voucher system that a lot of Coastal Bend veterans depend upon and the VA's commitment to provide lifetime care for Purple Heart recipients.
Burton received two Purple Hearts while serving in the air cavalry as a door gunner on a scout helicopter in Vietnam.
And yet, he's sitting on more than $20,000 in medical bills which the VA isn't paying.
But, as the video shows, getting help from the VA has been difficult for Burton. In fact, it was not until we contacted U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold that anything happened.
