The City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, and NRG Energy kicked off their Beat the Heat centers Thursday.
This summer, Greenwood Senior Center and Lindale Senior Center will have a spot for seniors and young children to cool off.
Seniors and young children are most vulnerable to heat-related health problems, and organizers aim to help avoid those this summer, with a cool place for them to hang out.
"If you're looking to let your air conditioning take a break [or] raise your thermostat for a couple of degrees, it's best never to shut them off, and come here and engage in some fun and activities and get to meet other people in your community," said Bill Clayton, executive director of NRG Charitable Foundation.
The centers will be open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Greenwood Senior Center is located at 4040 Greenwood Drive and Lindale Senior Center is located at 3131 Swantner Street.
