Local Red Cross gets big boost

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI - The local chapter of the Red Cross got a much needed boost, Thursday.

Flint Hills Resources donated $17,500 to the organization. The gift came at a perfect time; earlier this month, KRIS 6 reported the local chapter of the Red Cross was strapped for cash. It was tending to so many emergencies, it ran out of money.

Phillip Polley, Executive Director of the  local chapter of the Red Cross, said the money will go a long way.

It goes to help feed and house, and also to provide trainers for our volunteers. We have about 100 volunteers here who are being trained in things like sheltering,” explained Polley.

The Red Cross is still working on raising more money. It's holding its biggest annual fundraiser May 21st. Every dollar that's donated stays local.
