BOSTON (AP) - Dustin Pedroia waved home the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch, then singled in two more during Boston's seven-run seventh inning on Wednesday night and the Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 9-4 for their third straight victory. Chris Sale struck out six, falling short in his attempt to become the first pitcher in baseball's modern era to strike out at least 10 batters in nine straight games in one season. He allowed three earned runs, six hits and a walk in 7 1/3 innings and received more runs of support in the seventh inning alone than in any previous game this season.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Brett Vosik had a two-run single in a four-run eighth inning and second-seeded Kansas beat second-seeded TCU 7-3 in the opening round of the Big 12 Conference tournament Wednesday. Blake Battenfield threw six scoreless innings to help eighth-seeded Oklahoma State to a 3-0 win over top-seeded Texas Tech in another first-round matchup. And West Virginia scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to defeat Baylor 11-1 in another opening of the Big 12 tournament.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Sebastien Bourdais has been released from the hospital after a crash during qualifying for the Indy 500 last weekend that left him with multiple fractures in his pelvis and a fractured right hip. Bourdais will likely miss the rest of the season, though he optimistically tweeted he was "looking forward to getting back in the car." James Davison will drive his entry for Dale Coyne Racing on Sunday in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500.
