Thank you for your interest in KRIS-TV's Digital Television (DTV) broadcasting. We are excited to offer this new technology to Corpus Christi and surrounding communities. We realize you may have questions about digital television and what it means to you and your community. We've designed this information with the help of the National Association of Broadcasters to help answer those questions.

Information Specific to the Corpus Christi Area
During the DTV transition period, KRIS-TV will operate both an analog signal and a digital signal. While everyone is familiar with our analog signal at Channel 6, KRIS-TV's assigned channel for DTV operations is VHF Channel 13 and will be in operation 24 hours a day effective August 13, 2004.

KRIS-TV is proud to be Corpus Christi's first commercial high definition digital television station. KRIS-TV's DTV signal is considered to be high definition. However, in the immediate future this signal will be derived, in part, from our existing analog signal by a process called upconverting. This means that the aspect ratio of our signal will be 16:9. We will be passing all NBC programming that is produced in High Definition through at the highest resolution.

Much of the local programming will be letter boxed with bars on the left and right sides of the screen.

KRIS-TV's DTV signal does not completely extend as far as our analog signal at this time. We do expect the signal will cover most of the towns in our coverage area. We recommend the use of a standard roof top antenna to receive the best possible signal. The old style antenna you may have now should work fine and will not need amplification. The antenna should be pointed directly toward our transmitter location near Robstown, and all connections should be waterproofed for endurance. KRIS-TV's DT transmitter is in the same location as the existing analog transmitter.

The KRIS-TV HD channel is now available on Corpus Christi Time Warner Cable on channel 860, and channel 407 on Grande Communications Cable You must have a HD-Digital cable box from your cable provider to receive our signal via cable. You can call Time Warner at 698.6200 or Grande at 334-4600 for more details.

The local Channel 6 signal provided by DirecTV and Dish Network is not high definition. While the DirecTV signal is digital, it is actually derived from our existing analog transmitter and is not considered HDTV. Although, if you already own a HD receiver from DirecTV or Dish Network, you can receive our DTV feed by hooking up an antenna to your satellite receiver. Consult your satellite user manual for instructions.
