CORPUS CHRISTI -- Are you wondering why everyone called in sick to work this week?
It seems everyone has come down with the same fever--World Cup fever.
Hundreds of people are trading in their laptops for an ice cold beer.
Local bars and restaurants are packed during hours they would normally be empty.
Several of the big World Cup matches have fallen during regular business hours, but people are showing up in droves anyway.
Local restaurant and bar owners are just fine with the lack of productivity in the office.
The World Cup has driven up their revenue in a big way.
That's especially true for Executive Surf Club owner Brad Lomax.
"For Major League Baseball, for some of the other sports, we don't get this kind of crowd," Lomax said. "This kind of excitement...is great. I mean, unbelievable!"
Several businesses across town have been standing room only during big matches.
HardKnocks Sports Bar on Everhart was packed for USA's match against Belgium.
they're opening up early and stocking up on extra food and drinks.
And even though our boys are headed home after Tuesday's devastating loss, the money still stays in the bank for local business owners.
