Woman Sees Wreckage of Home for the First Time

ARANSAS PASS -- A woman who lost everything to a vicious brush fire, surveyed all the damage for the first time Sunday morning.
Dana Madison spent the last 15 years living in her home in Aransas Pass but it only took 15 minutes for her to realize nothing was spared by the flames that hit March 1st.
"Everything is gone," Madison said.
Madison is just saw the devastation for the first time. She was in Houston undergoing medical treatment when her home burned to the ground a little over 2 weeks ago.
"I've been gone for a couple months getting medical stuff done up there," she said.
She says what hurts the most about losing everything to this fire while she's been away is thinking she could have saved her home.
"If I'd had been here I might have been able to save it the fire went almost up to Pete's and he was out there with a garden hose, that's how he saved his place," Madison said.
Madison says fire officials told her they struggled to get to the fire. When it broke out and by the time the flames had destroyed 60 acres, her home was already burned down and coming to see the damage took weeks.
"I think I was dealing with it better not seeing it but I'm not sure it would've been any better to wait any longer either. I think this is just what happens for anybody when they see it," she said.
After facing the fear that nothing was spared, Madison says with the help of community support she hopes to move in to another home in Aransas Pass soon.
