Woman Helplessly Watches Brother's Home Burn

CALALLEN -- Residents living near a house fire say they heard an explosion and saw the flames burst out of a home on Yellowstone Drive just before midnight. The home owner's sister whose heartbroken for the family.
"It's just a loss for my brother, I'm so grateful that you know his kids weren't in there," Sonya Quitugua said.
It was an emotional Christmas morning for Sonya who lives just a few doors down from her brother's home that was destroyed in an overnight fire. Her brother's family was in Alice at the time celebrating the holidays with relatives.
"Everything was destroyed," she said.
Neighbors took video that shows flames bursting from the top of the home. Sonya says, fire officials believe the fire started in the back of the home.
"They were saying that it was from an electrical outlet in the backyard from a little plug," she said.
Fire officials cannot confirm how the fire started but Sonya says she heard a loud boom and thought it was the generator.
"The generator exploded and that's what caused the big flames," she said.
Sonya says her biggest concern is her family who has lost everything to this fire and can't go home for Christmas.
"My little nephews, my sister-in-law, my brother, where are they going to come back to a home."
There's toys and DVD's scattered in the front yard, just some things burned to ash, Sonya says thankfully there are people like Jace, her neighbor, who wants to give away his presents to help ease the devastation.
"We wrapped them up a present since their presents burned," Jace Silguero said.
"He was going to give it to my little nephews for Christmas because they lost everything," Sonya said.
Sonya plans to have a benefit for her brother's family this Saturday.
