Woman Flees Home as Thieves Ransack the Place

CORPUS CHRISTI - A woman home alone this afternoon was able to escape when two men smashed a window or door and started ransacking the home.

This all happened just after 1 p.m. at 3 Hewitt Drive, a very nice home in a well-known part of town.

At least 2 suspects smashed their way in and started trashing the house looking for stuff to steal, according to police.

The woman snuck out the back door, called 911, and waited for police to show up.

Captain Houston with CCPD says there were several officers in the area who showed up in time to see the thieves fleeing out the back door and hopping a fence with all their loot.

They left a trail of stolen goods down Hewitt Drive as the tried to outrun the officers.

Both are now in custody, but police are looking for a third suspect who was driving their getaway vehicle. They do not have a description of that suspect or the car.
