Woman Accused of Shooting at TV Station

HOUSTON - A woman accused of firing a gun at the ABC affiliate in Houston made her first court appearance today. 44-year-old Michelle Monique Burks is charged with deadly conduct and evading arrest.

Prosecutors say Burks told police that she was doing it "in self defense" after she was arrested for allegedly firing several shots at the KTRK-TV station Thursday morning.

Investigators say they found five 40-caliber shell casings in the parking lot where they say she was first spotted shooting at the building.

While no one was hurt, the bullets fired into a second story office window could have easily killed an employee seated at her desk.

Prosecutors say emails, along with strange Facebook comments that Burks allegedly sent to newsroom employees starting back in January, were also tagged as evidence.

Photos of Burks inside the KTRK building on a previous occasion were also presented as evidence.

Police have not made mention of any motive for the incident.
