CORPUS CHRISTI - One man is dead, and another is recovering from a gunshot wound after a chaotic scene last night on Van Loan Avenue. Police say Vernon Goodley is now charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
"That's my family, baby cousin, Quincy Lee," one man told us. "We socialize, we network, we gamble," Lee's cousin explains.
We're told a large crowd had gathered for a game of dice when witnesses claim Goodley became upset with losing. A friend of the victim says someone handed Goodley a gun.
Lee's mother ran out into the street to see her son as he was shot. A witness claims Goodley then fired a final shot. "The last shot... the last shot she had her son in her arms and he shot him in the head."
Lee was only in his mid-30's and leaves behind a daughter. The family tells us it is a blessing he made it past 15 in the neighborhood.
"I'm telling you it recycles man. That is the way of life, that is the way it is. It goes on and on and on," said the cousin.
"Photographs, videos, memories, laughter, heartache, whatever...can't nobody change that. A pistol don't wipe that away. We just hold onto that while we can," Lee's cousin says.
While Lee was found dead at the scene, another man later showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police arrested Goodley at a home in Robstown about an hour after the shooting.
