CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks are cleverly saying their old hit record will be shattered during their Hall of Fame Fight Night on Oct. 17.
All in all, seven different fights will be housed on the diamond, with Corpus Christi's own Jerry Belmontes helping headline the event. His opponent has yet to be named.
However, Belmontes has an idea of who it might be, but the bigger picture in this one is breaking the important 10-win plateau.
"It's like a different level. I mean, there are a lot of different steps, when you get to 10 wins you get a different step. Then, 20 wins, an even better step everything is just better then and different," Jerry Belmontes said.
Also, as few knew, the Coastal Bend almost lost Belmontes to Houston. He admitted that there just isn't good enough sparring competition in the Coastal Bend. However, what is keeping him in his hometown is the fact that he has a baby boy on the way, which changes everything - especially what drives him.
"You motivate your kids and they are going to motivate you, because you want for them to live a good life and a better life than you and that's what I am going for," Belmontes said.
