CORPUS CHRISTI - The November general election is over, but there are still plenty of reminders around.

You've probably been wondering when all those campaign signs will be taken down. City officials tell us if they're not down by Wednesday, they'll start issuing some hefty fines.

State law gives candidates 10 days from election day to take down their signs. So all the signs should have been down Friday, not the case.

There are still signs throughout the city, and now code enforcement is stepping in.

If the signs are in the right of way, no problem, they will be removed today. But the other signs like the ones on fences, are on private property so coe enforcement officers aren't allowed to remove them.

Today code enforcement officers set out to let property owners know about the law.

We tagged along side Code Enforcement Officer Ed Salazar who went to warn home owners that the signs need to be down soon.

We went to one house, where when asked by Salazar if the home owner knew he had political signs on his fence, he responded, "Yes sir. I heard on the news I had about 10 days."

Salazar responded, "that's over, that was over Friday. I am notifying you, you have 48 hours to get it removed."

We went to another house where the home owner told us the signs would be down soon, Salazar told him, "They need to be gone. They were supposed to be down on Friday."

Folks who still have political signs on their property have two days to get them down, and you can't use the excuse you weren't home.

For people who were out, they got a warning on their door about the signs.

And if the campaign signs aren't down by Wednesday, then both the property owner and the candidate will pay the price. $500 that is.
