CORUS CHRISTI - On Thursday night a report appeared in the Houston Chronicle stating Houston Astros owner Jim Crane is contemplating purchasing several of the team's minor league teams to increase the Astros brand and earning potential.

The Hooks were never specifically mentioned, but the red flags immediately went up, as Hooks CEO Reid Ryan told me over the phone he had received a number of phone calls asking about the team's future.

"There is always buzz going around but as far as someone coming in with a solid offer we have never had it and we are holders not sellers we have had our minor league club's for going back to 1998. We have been an Astros affiliate for years now and we have a long track record. I mean I'm a young guy and don't wanna get out of the game anytime soon and my son wants to work in the game so I don't see us as someone to up and sell the club and get out of baseball," said Ryan.

The franchise has been in Corpus Christi since 2005. The Astros Player Development Contract with Corpus Christi runs through 2016 and the Hooks have seven seasons remaining on their 15-year lease at Whataburger Field, so professional baseball isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

"We're in this for the long term it's our life and when I hear these things I take it with a grain of salt. I mean that's awesome people think we have done a good job and the market is important but besides that this is the first I have heard of this report in the Chronicle," said Ryan.

The Hooks home opener is slated for April 4th against Springfield.
