CORPUS CHRISTI - Temperatures once again rose into the mid-80s this afternoon as our streak of above normal temperatures continues for at least one more day.

Tonight, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with south-southeast winds at 10-20mph and partly to mostly cloudy skies. It will be relatively warm and muggy.

Christmas Day, a strong front will move into the area around mid-day and increase winds dramatically across the region from the northwest around 20-40mph with higher gusts possible. This has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for most of South Texas as fire danger will be very high. The "colder" air will not arrive in the area until later in the afternoon and evening, but as is does, temperatures will drop drastically with a freeze likely to our northern counties and hovering around the freezing mark around the city of Corpus Christi. Rainfall with this system looks minimal as most of it will stay well to our north and east around Houston.

If you have outdoor activities planned Christmas night, do not forget to grab the jackets because one will be needed. The strong to moderate winds will put wind chill values in the upper 20s for most of us. Also, do not forget to provide an extra blanket for outdoor pets if you are unable to bring them inside. Covering sensitive vegetation is also encouraged along with your water pipes. Though a hard freeze is not expected, which is freezing temperatures for a prolonged period of time, taking the precaution would not hurt.

Temperatures will stay relatively cool through Thursday before we warm up in the 70s ahead of our nxt frontal boundary that will put us right back in the 40s and 50s for the weekend.

Merry Christmas!
