CORPUS CHRISTI - A very warm start to the weekend has unfolded over South Texas with temperatures reaching the middle 80s for a good portion of the viewing area with the exception being right along the coast near the water. It was certainly breezy out there today as well, but was nothing we could not handle, as winds topped out near 30mph this afternoon. Similar weather pattern will continue for the next few days, including Easter, before some changes arrive by the middle of next week.
Tonight, expect the cloud cover to increase overhead as the winds subside around 7-14mph out of the south-southeast. Temperatures will be a bit mild only falling into the upper 60s. With similar dewpoint values, it will be a humid night and maybe a few areas could see some light fog. Though, winds should keep the surface air mixing and dense fog is not expected.
Easter Sunday will not be too bad, though be sure to keep cool outdoors as temperatures will once again reach the middle to upper 80s for a good portion of the area. Even some 90s will be possible the further west you go. Winds will be on the breezy side out of the south-southeast around 15-20mph and gust around 25-30. So hold on to those BBQ plates if you will be dining outdoors!
The start of next week will begin warm with temperatures continuing in the upper 80s to lower 90s, a fairly strong Canadian cold front will begin to dive into the Plain states this weekend and eventually makes it way to South Texas late Tuesday and on into Wednesday. At the same time, a potent upper level low will begin to move in from the west and provide some upper level support to increase rain chances Tuesday afternoon/evening and on into Wednesday. The front will bring temperatures down into the 60s for highs on Wednesday as it will be a fairly chilly/overcast day with showers and a few embedded thunderstorms. I will point out that there is a lot of inconsistency within the various weather models on the arrival of the front, however most agree that it will bring more than just a couple of sprinkles. Definitely not the drought buster we are looking for, but still something to look forward to.
Have a great Easter.
