CORPUS CHRISTI - Two prison gang members wanted by police were arrested yesterday at a home on Vanderbilt near Ayers and Norton. A fair amount of drugs were also found inside.
"That's horrible. It just breaks my heart that's just terrible," said Jonathan Vasquez's mother when she found out that her son was a wanted gang member and was arrested Wednesday on family violence charges.
Vasquez's mother says family violence calls were not uncommon in this household. Police say one of those calls is actually what brought them to the home on Wednesday.
When police showed up at this home to arrest Vasquez they ended up getting more than what they came for. Police say when they went inside they found Joshua Brown, another wanted prison gang member, and Christopher Reed at a table with almost a pound of marijuana. After searching the home officers say they also found a half ounce of cocaine and over an ounce of heroin. All drugs police believe were going to be sold.
"If it turns out that he was doing that. He kept it a secret from me. It's just something he would not want me to know," said Vasquez's mother.
She says she doesn't believe her son is a prison gang member and that she had no idea he had all those drugs in his home. When I asked her if she suspected this she said,"No! No, I'm very much against it and my son knows that. He knows that I'm very much against it. You know? I don't want him to be like that. I don't think no mother does."
Neighbors were also shocked saying they live in such a quiet neighborhood, and would never expect gang members to be living there.
"That is scary. Like I said, I didn't know anything about this. I mean I would never have suspected it, Never!" said neighbor Diana Martinez.
The men were all taken to the Nueces County Jail and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
