CORPUS CHRISTI - A group of people got together this morning to clean up La Retama Park in downtown Corpus Christi. Next Friday will be the monthly art walk that centers around the park so these volunteers wanted to make sure it looks great.
"We're painting the no parking lines, red lines because they look pretty bad, they look better," said Rebecca Lyons with the Downtown Neighborhood Association. "They've installed some benches already and they're working on installing the pet station so people who bring in their dog to the park can pick up after them."
The group also wants to landscape and add even more benches to the park. Most of the people who helped this morning are part of Leadership Corpus Christi. The class prepares future leaders on how to make the city a better place to live and work.
"As part of our project we wanted to come out and make a difference in our community so a bunch of our classmates came out and this is one of the projects we picked for our class to make Corpus Christi a better place to live," said Marjorie Boudreaux with Friends of La Retama Park.
