Volunteer Firefighter Accused of Stealing from Department

ARANSAS PASS - A volunteer firefighter was arrested late Thursday in Aransas Pass. He's accused of taking money from his own department.

Aransas Pass Police Chief Eric Blanchard wouldn't confirming the suspect's name late Thursday. But we learned today Seth Malcolm is accused of taking between $20,000 and $100,000 from the department. That's an enhanced second degree felony because the victim is a nonprofit agency.

The investigation into the department's finances began last week when several checks written to pay for a haunted house fundraiser bounced.

The police chief made it very clear Thursday night he believes this was not an accidental accounting mistake, that this was an intentional act to take money from the department.
