CORPUS CHRISTI - The man who stabbed his to death his estranged girlfriend and two of her relatives back in 2001 will be executed next year. Today, a District Court Judge David Stith ordered Jose Villegas die by lethal injection on April 16th.
In January of 2001, Villegas killed 25-year-old Erida Rosales, her mother 51-year-old Alma Perez, and Rosales' 3-year-old son Jacob Salazar inside their home on Curtiss Street.
It was as brutal crime scene at Rosales was stabbed 19 times and her mother 35 times. Villegas admitted to police, he had used cocaine and stole a television and car from the home so he could buy more drugs.
Prosecutors argued for the jury to issue a death sentence based not only on the murders, but for Villegas' history of arrests for assault, terroristic threats, burglaries, indecency with a child, and child molestation.
In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to consider an appeal claiming Villegas was represented by ineffective counsel during his capital murder trial.
