CORPUS CHRISTI-
Today family and friends gathered at Rosehill cemetery to pay a tribute to a man they say will never be forgotten.
Jose G. Cortez, of the US Army was killed in combat February 9, 1968 by an artillery rocket in South Vietnam.

It was a bitter sweet reunion for a retired colonel and the family of a fallen hero. Jose G. Cortez , of the US Army was killed in battle 45 years ago in Vietnam. Colonel ken Southworth said he has waited all these years to meet the family Cortez left behind, and today he finally did.
He says the memory of what happened haunted him, because he knew Cortez was leaving behind a son.

The family and Colonel Southworth will continue celebrating his life with a dinner later tonight.

The group will also visit other memorials, which will include his old high school, Sherrill Park and the Nueces County Courthouse.
