Victims of Aquarium Inn Explosion Settle Out of Court

CORPUS CHRISTI -- The Aquarium Inn exploded two years ago. Authorities never could find the exact cause or who was to blame.
But a lawsuit against the inn is settled now. The explosion and flames that tore down the Aquarium Inn remain a mystery.
But the blast was strong enough to impact even some across from the property. Rudy Noriega works at the aquarium. He was on his golf cart, working in the parking lot across the street he heard the blast.
Flying glass and debris cut him and knocked him down.
He wouldn't comment today, but we did talk to him from the hospital the day it happened. "My legs, arms, elbows, just cuts, small cuts, and then the large cut, but you know, I had a good guardian angel watching over me or something," Noriega told us, "I was very lucky."
He filed a lawsuit against Breakwater Corporation, the owner of the Aquarium Inn and Suites.
Noriega was seeking money for his medical bills, pain and suffering and loss of work during his recovery.
He's now back at work, and according to his attorney, David Burkett, he's happy to be there.
"His medical treatment's completed and he is back at work," he explained. "We're not going to say he's good as new."
To this day the actual cause of the explosion has not been determined, but Burkett tells us that it is their claim that the owner of the property may have been responsible. "The exact source was never determined by anyone," he explained, "a general source was argued."
The terms of the agreement have to be kept confidential.
The Aquarium Inn also settled with the Juan Luis in the case. He's the UPS driver who also suffered injuries from the blast.
A third part joined too late and will now be pursuing Breakwater Corporation on their own.
