CORPUS CHRISTI - Tabatha Elliott was found guilty of manslaughter of the death of 39-year old Gilbert Reyna.
Reyna was walking his bike along I-37 with his brother when he was hit and killed.
The punishment phase of Elliott's trial began this afternoon. Today Gilbert Reyna's wife and his mother took the stand to talk about their loved one. They told the jury how much they miss him and how difficult their lives have been since Tabatha Elliot hit him and left him dead on the side of the road.
"After raising 7 boys on my own, every one that takes away one of my sons, I'm gonna miss them," said Reyna's mother Beatrice Reyna.
His wife, Summer Seay, has two simple words to describe how painful it's been dealing with the death of her husband, "Hard. Lost."
"I don't have my person to talk to," said Seay.
While she says his death has been hard on her... She says it's hardest on her two young children. Hearing this brought Elliot to tears.
"They used to be straight As or A/B. Now they're Cs and Fs," said Seay.
While they are both struggling in school, their father's death has caused them to struggle personally as well.
"My son was an outside person. All the time. Bikes, skateboards, scooters. He stays inside now. He don't go out," said Seay about her son.
"She used to always want to read and draw and write poetry with him. She hasn't picked it up in the year he's been gone," said Seay about her daughter.
Elliot's attorney tried to tell the family that she knows what they are going through. That comment made Reyna's mother very upset.
"When you, somebody takes a piece of your heart. No you don't sir, no you don't. Not unless you gone through it. Then you will know. But I don't think that you know," said Reyna.
The jury will hear testimony from Elliot's family Thursday morning. After that deliberations on her punishment will get underway. Elliott faces up to 10 years in prison.
