CORPUS CHRISTI - While most drivers and passersby chuckled at the reprogrammed sign on Roddfield Road that warned zombies were ahead, the workers with RayTec weren't pleased that vandals had broken into the lock box and hacked the sign.
The workers told me that it is vandalism and that if they find out who did it, they will prosecute.
Meanwhile, I spoke with Charlie Cardenas, a City Traffic Engineer and he says, though it shows great skill with computers, the vandals could have caused a serious incident.
For instance, if they had changed the speed limit, or gave incorrect directions for the upcoming construction zone. He says if the vandal or vandals' identities are discovered, they could face some serious criminal charges.
On the flip side, the vast majority of the hundreds of people who have commented so far on KRIS 6 News and Action 10 News Facebook think it is nothing more than a funny prank.
This is by no means a new type of vandalism. For the past couple of years at least, people in Texas and other states have reported the same messages showing up on highway signs.
