Van Driver Killed, Mother and Children Injured in Crash

SKIDMORE - State troopers are investigating a fatal crash on Highway 359 a few miles west of Skidmore. A trooper says the driver of a Dodge Durango veered across the center line and slammed head-on into a cargo van.

The driver of the van, 32-year-old David Salazar Jr of Corpus Christi, did not survive the crash. It took more than an hour to free 22-year-old Joanna Quiroz of Beeville from the wrecked Dodge Durango. Initial reports indicate she has severe injuries.

Halo Flight has confirmed a 2-year-old boy was also flown from the accident scene to Driscoll Children's Hospital with serious injuries. A trooper says the second child in the SUV, a 2-month-old baby, was taken to a hospital in Beeville.

Family members have identified Oscar Vasquez and Audrey Vasquez as the injured children. The same family member says the boy is stable at the hospital and the baby will be okay.
